Newborn Hearing Screenings
All hospitals in New Hampshire with birth centers perform newborn hearing screenings. Most infants have a newborn hearing screening completed prior to leaving the birth hospital. Those babies who do not pass two screenings in one or both ears are referred for further diagnostic hearing evaluation. Not all children who are referred for diagnostic hearing testing have a hearing loss. A hearing evaluation is the only way to know whether or not a child has a hearing loss, so it’s important for families to have follow-up testing.
